Chinese telecom gear maker ZTE has appointed Yan Xiao as the new deputy chief executive officer of the Indian operations. Yan will report to India CEO Peng Aiguang and will look after telco partners such as Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio besides focusing on government and enterprise customers in the country.

Yan, Vice President of ZTE Corporation, had been serving the company as the chief executive of Myanmar.

The development comes at a time when the telecom gear maker is preparing for fresh investments to expand operations having bagged a 4G expansion contract from Vodafone Idea for five circles.

In another development, former Idea Cellular executive Rajat Mukarji has also joined ZTE India as the Chief Corporate Officer. He most recently served Idea Cellular as the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.

ZTE currently provides equipment for BSNL’s 4G and 3G networks’ expansion in the North-East zone and Bharti Airtel’s network expansion in some select circles. The Chinese company competes with the likes of Huawei, Ericsson, and Nokia. It had suffered some business losses last year as it was not able to supply some equipment to Indian clients due to the US ban, which has since been lifted.
