Hindustan Unilever Ltd. appoints Nitin Paranjpe as Non-Executive Chairman

Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) has announced the segregation of the positions of the Chairman of the Board and the CEO & Managing Director. Following this, the company has appointed Nitin Paranjpe as a Non-Executive Chairman of the company. 

Currently, Nitin is holding the position of the Chief Operating Operating Officer of Unilever, the parent company of HUL. He will take over as the Non-Executive Chairman from March 31, 2022.

Having been associated with Unilever for almost 12 years, Nitin comes with the right set of skills to scale HUL’s business according to the global market and strategise on the company’s growth. 

According to the official release, Sanjiv Mehta will continue to operate as the CEO and MD. The communique states that Nitin will take on a new role as Chief Transformation Officer & Chief People Officer, leading the business transformation, and heading the HR function for Unilever effective April 2022. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Heineken NV.

Commenting on the new appointment, Mehta, said, “We welcome Nitin back to HUL as the Non-Executive Chairman. He brings in huge knowledge and experience which will enrich the deliberations and add value to the Board.” He also thanked the Board for their unstinted support rendered to him during his tenure and added, “It has been an honour to have led the HUL Board over the past few years.”

Commenting on his appointment as the Non-Executive Chairman, Nitin said, “It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed as the non-executive Chairman of HUL; one of the most respected companies in the country. I look forward to working closely with Sanjiv and the Board to further strengthen the company and help navigate the challenges and opportunities in the years ahead.”
