Jet Airways appoints Vinay Dube as Chief Executive Officer

Jet Airways has appointed Vinay Dube as the company Chief Executive Officer. The appointment was approved by the Airlines Board at its meeting on Tuesday, and it is subject to "receipt of all requisite government/ regulatory approvals, including his security clearance being obtained", according to media reports.

Prior to Jet, Dube was the Senior Vice President - Asia Pacific at the Delta Airlines.

The position of the CEO was lying vacant since Cramer Ball quit to join Alitalia in February 2016. Since Ball’s exit, the two acting CEOs – Gaurang Shetty and Amit Agarwal (CFO) were taking care of the business. The Board has also approved the re-appointment of Shetty as the whole-time Director.

“Dube is an accomplished aviation leader with over 27 years of the US and international business experience,” Jet Airways said in a filing. The appointment comes after almost 15 months since Cramer Ball’s exit, company’s last full-time CEO.

Under Vinay’s leadership, Delta has diversified its network and customer base and has grown into one of the largest premium airlines across the Pacific.  Vinay was instrumental in Delta’s acquisition of a 3.5% equity stake in China Eastern Airlines and currently serves as an Observer to the China Eastern Airlines Board of Directors.

Vinay previously served as Vice President - Alliances and Industry Affairs responsible for Delta’s participation in SkyTeam and Delta’s partner and industry relationships. In 2009, Vinay played a pivotal role in establishing Delta’s industry-leading joint venture with Air France, KLM and Alitalia - a $10 billion enterprise and the first of its kind across the Atlantic.

Prior to that, Vinay served as Delta’s Vice President and Chief Information Officer and Chief Executive Officer for  Delta Technology.  In this role, Vinay and his team helped architect the technology footprint for Delta’s acquisition of Northwest Airlines, leading to one of the most successful mergers in aviation history.

According to a report, Dube's selection to the airline's top post is also an indication of Jet's growing relations with Delta. Jet Airways has extensive codeshare partnership with Air France-KLM and Delta and is also negotiating a commercial joint venture agreement with them.

Dube began his career with American Airlines as an operations research analyst and soon progressed to Manager of Network Forecasting Systems.  He then moved to Sabre Inc., a global leader in technology solutions and marketing services for the travel industry where he held various leadership positions in Strategy, Sales, Marketing, and Consulting.

Dube has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from Knox College and a Master’s degree in Operations Research from the University of North Carolina.
