Airtel appoints a new CFO

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel announced that that Soumen Ray has been appointed as new CFO with effect from December 21, 2021. The current CFO Badal Bagri has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Ray will report to Gopal Vittal, Managing Director, and CEO (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel, as per a company statement.

Commenting on his appointment, Gopal Vittal said, “We are delighted to have Soumen as part of the Airtel leadership team...I am confident his experience will add immense value to Airtel's exciting growth journey as the company transforms into a digital services provider."

Ray is a Chartered Accountant and comes with over 23 years of experience in financial planning, management accounting, factory commercial, treasury, and corporate accounts. He joins Airtel from Bajaj Auto Ltd., where he is currently the Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Bajaj Auto, he has also been associated with Viacom18, Hindustan Unilever, ITC and Eveready Industries India.

Ray’s appointment has been approved by both the board and the audit committee of the company.

In June this year, Airtel had also announced the appointment of Amrita Padda as Chief People Officer with effect from 1 October, 2021.
