As per the latest media report, the government of India is pushing the National Skill Development Corporation to ensure that jobs are provided by its partners for the people that have been trained.

This push comes in wake of the 2019 elections when the issue of the jobs could play a huge role. Though originally, the National Skill Development Corporation was not tasked with ensuring jobs for the trained personals, after the government notification and the increase in the budget allocated, the National Skill Development Corporation has taken up the responsibility. Further, the government has told NSDC that the created jobs must reflect on the online portal which has been created for similar purposes.

The government has also warned the skill councils that if the numbers are not met, the funds which had been allocated under the project will be withheld, and the unutilized money will be taken back if there is no spike in hiring. 

The Central government funds for skill training under the flagship skill training scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY). While the budget allocated for skill training was 1000 crore in the year 2016, it has now increased to 3000 crore in the year 2017.

The media report also states that job creation fell to a six-year low in the year 2015. There were 1.35 lakh jobs created in the year 2015, 4.21 lakh jobs in the year 2014, and 4.19 lakh jobs in the year 2013.
