Bain & Company has been ranking 2nd since the past two years in the Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work. This year, it has dislodged last year’s winner Airbnb and gained the No.1 spot for the Best Place to Work in 2017. Airbnb, very surprisingly has moved to the 35th position this year from the top spot. Bain & Company is a global management consulting firm with offices in Mumbai and New Delhi that serve Indian clients in all sectors.

The Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards is in its Ninth year, and is based entirely on employee feedback, honour various companies and leaders throughout the world. The awards cover a range of categories, including Best Places to Work and Highest Rated CEOs. 

The remaining top four are: Facebook – has moved up to the second position from 5th last year, Boston Consulting Group has secured the third position, up from 7th in 2016, Google is in 4th, moved up four ranks from 8th last year, and World Wide Technology has climbed up to 5th from 12th last year.

While LinkedIn is ranked 8th, down by two slots from last year, McKinsey & Company is in 11, also down from 9th last year. Nestle is at 13th, SAP is at 15th. Interestingly, Apple & Microsoft rank 36 and 37 respectively. Apple was in 25th position in 2016 while Microsoft ranks for the first time in the Best Places to Work. Adobe has secured 9th position in 2017, up about 11 ranks from last year. 

Twitter which had ranked in the first position in 2014 didn’t find a place in this year’s ranking. So are Expedia, RedBull, Nike, Chevron which had ranked 16, 46, 47, 39 respectively in 2016. 

The ranking showed a lot of diversity this time. Travel companies —Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines both made the list, and religious organisation like The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was ranked 19. 

Award winners are determined using feedback employees have shared on Glassdoor throughout the past year. Employees complete an anonymous company review that captures their overall job and company satisfaction, as well as qualitative insights into the best reasons to work at their company, along with what needs improvement.  Based on feedback employees share during the year long period of eligibility, Glassdoor then applies a proprietary algorithm to each award category. As part of the algorithm, Glassdoor considers the quality, quantity, and consistency of reviews.

The employees’ review should not take more than few minutes to complete. Only one company review per employee is accepted each year, and each review must meet Glassdoor's community guidelines.  For Glassdoor's Best Places to Work awards, the eligibility deadline is the first week in November.
