As COVID-19 turned out to be the biggest challenge for the nation, Chief Ministers and government officials have joined the movement of not withdrawing salaries due to this crisis. 

The state of Telangana has decided to cut the salaries of the Chief Minister, cabinet minister and senior IAS, IPS officers. After going through the current financial condition of the state, decisions were taken on payment of various government employees' salaries.

As per the government announcement, there will be 75 per cent cut in the salaries of CM, state cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and representatives of local bodies.

There will be a 60 per cent salary cut for IAS, IPS, IFS and other such central services officers -- for all other categories of employees, there will be a 50 per cent salary cut. For class IV, outsourcing and contract employees, there will be a 10 per cent pay cut.

Following the path of Telangana CM, K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chief  Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackrey has announced the salary cut on Tuesday. The salary cut will include CM, Deputy CM and all elected representatives including those in civic bodies, will be down by 60 per cent. While class A and B government employees will take a 50 per cent cut in their salary. 

The Coronavirus impact has panned out across the country and state governments, central government, senior industry leaders are doing their bit to fight this pandemic. Odisha Government released a statement saying, “There shall be a deferment of 70% in the gross salary of Chief Minister, ministers, chairpersons of all corporations and elected representatives of all local bodies.”  

Many Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha speakers are donating to the Prime Minister’s relief fund for this cause. With financial aid and strict policies, the country is hoping to handle the situation.
