Founder and Chairman of Vedanta Resources, Anil Agarwal has appointed Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan as the CEO of the company. Venkatakrishnan is currently the CEO of Johannesburg-based AngloGold and has spent much of his career working in Africa.

Agarwal has been searching for a new Vedanta CEO for more than a year and has hired Venkatakrishnan from Ashanti Goldfields Ltd., a gold mining company based in Ghana.

Agarwal has consistently sought talent from the world’s biggest miners. He had earlier hired former Rio Tinto Group CEO Tom Albanese as chief executive in 2014, and former Anglo American head Cynthia Carroll worked as an adviser until last year.

Venkatakrishnan has been the CEO of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. since May 8, 2013. Before joining AngloGold Ashanti Ltd, he served as a Director in the Reorganization Services division of Deloitte & Touche in London. He holds A.C.A from Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid.

Venkatakrishnan will take over from interim CEO Kuldip Kaura and will leave Johannesburg-based AngloGold in August and will join.
