Haryana govt plans 75% reservation for locals in private jobs

A draft ordinance to provide 75 per cent reservation in jobs in the private sector for the residents of Haryana has been tabled before the state Cabinet. The quota was promised by Jannayak Janata Party Chief Dushyant Chautala before the 2019 state assembly election. His newly formed party went on to win 10 seats and later formed an alliance with the BJP, which had emerged as the single largest party.

According to media reports, the draft ordinance will be passed in the next state cabinet meeting, following which the provision guaranteeing  75% of jobs to locals will come into force. It, however, will not impact the existing jobs in the state. As per the document, any new company/factory or new hiring by existing company/factory will have to follow the new provision.

Those who want to take the benefit of this new rule will have to furnish permanent resident proof and the labor department will be responsible to implement the new law. However, the law will be applicable only for posts that have a salary not more than Rs 50,000.

The report mentioned that the companies will have to register those employees that have salaries below Rs 50,000.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister if the companies are not registering to the portal will face a monetary punishment under section 3 of what he called Haryana State Employment to Local Candidates bill.

The fate of working professionals in Haryana will be decided in the next state cabinet meeting where the final decision will be taken. A large number of people from outside the state works in Haryana, especially in Gurgaon. With this new bill, the situation is likely to change for employers and employees.
