At the 9th Ciett World Employment Conference, the Indian Staffing Federation – the apex body of flexi staffing unveiled, “Indian Flexi Staffing Industry Research 2016: Sectoral and State Analysis”. According to the report, India will become the 3rd largest country to employ contract employees globally by 2018 with 2.9 million flexi staff. And over nine million youth would be added to the organized workforce in the next 20 years.  

In an address at the conference, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon’ble Minister of Labour & Employment, Government of India said, “We are happy to have partnered 49th Ciett World Employment Conference which is a magnificent platform for stakeholders of the staffing world. WEC has thrown valuable insights on some of global best practices. It showcased India as an emerging talent powerhouse before the global counterparts”

Rituparna Chakraborty, President, ISF, said, “India is one of the very few countries which has the younger workforce with every month a million kids getting added to India’s workforce and potentially to the world’s workforce”.

Annemarie Muntz, President, Ciett noted that “Structural challenges are holding India back to fulfil its full potential. Over complex regulation and bureaucracy need to be adjusted to the new era of employment.   For this reason, it is essential to address the organised workforce, fighting informality and illegality.  In this regard, up skilling of workers and education can contribute immensely to empower the country’s labour market.”

The report also highlighted that most of the contribution to overall flexi staff would come from 11 states who will dominate the formal employment landscape with 2.4 Mn out of 2.9 Mn flexi staff in 2018 with Maharashtra topping the chart followed by Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. 

According to the report, 15 sectors will employ about 90% of the flexi staff and the top five sectors – BFSI, Infrastructure, Construction and Energy, Logistics, Transport and communications, IT and Manufacturing will employ greater than 50 percent of flexi staff.
