Govt asks PSUs to consider distance degrees for jobs

The government of India has asked PSUs to recognize degrees and diplomas received through open and distance learning from UGS recognized universities for jobs. The government addressed this matter after various complaints were received in this regard. 

In May, Human Resource Development Ministry wrote to the Public Enterprises Department that they had received complaints against PSUs not recognizing applicant’s degrees and diploma from open and distance learning for the recruiting purpose. 

Reacting to the letter, Public Enterprises Department replied below board level posts is taken care by Boards of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). The administrative ministries/departments are requested to advise their CPSEs to take cognizance of the various notifications/circulars/public notices of Ministry of HRD and University Grants Commission.

“In this regard, it is mentioned that Government of India has consistently maintained that degree acquired through ODL mode are valid for employment in government and PSUs,” said R Subrahmanyam, Secretary in the HRD Ministry in the letter to his counterpart in Department of Public Enterprises Seema Bahuguna.
