ET reported that Facebook is using ‘dogfooding’ as a tool to retain its employees. In tech parlance 'dogfooding' is the act of getting employees to use/test the products the company builds. It comes from the colloquial 'eating your own dogfood'.

The report added that globally, most technology companies 'dogfood' their own products - for instance when they need to work the bugs out of their creations. But Facebook is doing more than just that. It is also using dogfooding as a tool to engage and retain its employees, most of whom tend to be in their early twenties and impatient. Dogfooding provides instant gratification, makes youngsters a part of the decision-making process: both factors critical to retaining the young and restless workforce.

The report mentions James Mitchell, the head of the Hyderabad office, Facebook as saying accepting that the company puts in a lot of effort around soliciting input from the different offices and teams. This cascades down making dogfooders responsible and feel invested in the company, he adds.
