Titan Company Limited, one of India’s leading diversified retail companies, displays its commitment for people at all levels beginning from engaging potential talent to ensuring that existing talent feel proud about working with the brand. The company is also highly committed to promoting meritocracy and hard skills.

Titan’s dedication to engage with candidates starts at the skilling level. Titan Eye+ is a short-term optometry program in collaboration with ITM Institute of Health Science, Bengaluru. The program duration is of 18 months (12 months of theoretical training and 6 months of internship). The entire course fee including the accommodation and food expense are borne by Titan Company Ltd. The candidates are also given special training on communication, grooming and teamwork. After the completion of theoretical training, the candidates were technically assessed and posted in the Titan Eye+ stores for their internship along with feedback on areas of improvement.

The company’s ‘Titans of Innovation’ program is conducted at engineering colleges. Teams of students are invited to present innovative solutions to a business challenge identified as the theme. The ideas presented by the teams are evaluated on innovativeness, practicality and social impact. The top two teams are awarded cash prizes and pre-placement interviews with Titan. This program allows Titan to communicate to the students on the excitement of working at Titan. More importantly, it allows us to interact with the talented students at each institution and identify the best.

During the economic recession, the company started an ‘Army of One’ program where Titanians were grouped into 20 geographic teams competing against each other to fight for excellence. The program imbibed in all members of every team a healthy spirit of competition with weekly achievement trackers as well as a sense of camaraderie thanks to a unified objective.  As a result of the same, Titan Company Limited was successful in achieving 110 per cent of set targets. Another unique program is called “Ignitor”. It was launched in 2013 and aims to channel the employees’ entrepreneurial capabilities while reviving the company’s start-up spirit. Employees could apply in teams or seek partners with specific skills. Individuals could also apply to join projects that interested them. The plans were evaluated for their business potential, fit with Titan’s vision, values and business plans, and the execution ability of the team involved. Identified teams received the resources and the freedom to execute their plans for a period of 12 weeks. The event aims to promote cross-pollination of innovative practices across divisions/retail formats.

All in all, through a sense of competition and innovation, Titan aims to engage and involve employees into the progress and betterment of the overall business.
