The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. It was renamed to TISS in 1964. The institution boasts of Sir Dorabji Library as among the most sought-after libraries for social scientists in India. It is also remote access enabled and students have access to several e-resource databases, such as JSTOR, SAGE, and EMERALD.
