#6 American Express India: A distinct employer

There needs to be an environment where employees can share their opinions and experiences freely

A global leader in corporate services and an established brand name in the finance industry, American Express has been an undisputed employer of choice, ranking in the Top 10 in the last three consecutive years. The secret to its success is simple, says Jyoti Rai, Vice President - Human Resources, India, “People join American Express for a job and stay for an experience! There needs to be an environment where employees can share their opinions and experiences freely and we must respect that.”

Excelling in the special category of ‘The Best Companies in Workplace Diversity and Inclusion’, the organization believes that the pace and depth of work is changing externally as well as internally. Adds Jyoti, “To be successful, not only do we need to have diversity in the workforce, but also have diversity of experiences and thought processes which are respected and shared by all.”

American Express also ranked first in ‘The Best Companies in Grievance Redressal & Workplace Fairness’ owing to its robust Employee Relations (ER) team. The ER team, although a part of HR, acts independently and stresses on enforcing policies and practices through transparent communication. The ER team enables transparency, fairness and objectivity in issue resolution for employees in India. The team works in collaboration and consultative partnership with the HR relationship leaders to ensure that the right process is followed for all complaints raised, in line with the regulatory requirements. Such initiatives uphold their high value to integrity of leadership and increased focus on care for employees.
