Automotive manufacturer Tata Motors has announced the appointment of Usha Sangwan, the first ever woman Managing Director of LIC as Additional Director and Independent Director of the company. Her appointment will be effective for five years from May 15, 2023 to May 14, 2028.

Sangwan's appointment to the post has been confirmed by the Board of Directors at its meeting held on March 20, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

 She joined LIC in 1981 as a Direct Recruit Officer. Since joining the insurance policy company, she took up various roles and responsibilities in her 37 years of career. She served LIC as MD from 2013-18.

Besides LIC, Sangwan also served various national and international companies including Axis Bank, Bombay Stock Exchange, LIC Housing finance, LIC Cards, Grasim Industries, Ambuja Cements, Ultratech Cement, GIC-RE, Voltas, LIC International Bahrain, Singapore, Nepal and Sri Lanka as board members.

At present, she is the Independent Director on the Board of Torrent Power, Trident Ltd, SBI Life, Axis Pension Fund and Tata Technologies Ltd.
