India-born executive could be next Microsoft CEO

Microsoft Corp has set up a special committee to find a new chief executive after Steve Ballmer announced his retirement on Friday, Reuters reported. The world's largest software company has no anointed successor, and has had only two CEOs in its 38-year history - Ballmer and co-founder Bill Gates.

The world's largest software company has no anointed successor, and has had only two CEOs in its 38-year history - Ballmer and co-founder Bill Gates.

Satya Nadella is one of the executives being considered for the top post. He heads Microsoft's cloud and enterprise group, which is coming to the fore as the company struggles to catch up in online and mobile computing. A native of Hyderabad, India, Nadella earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Mangalore University, a master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.
