Uber CPO to step down on 13th December

The company has witnessed multiple changes in the senior leadership in last two years.

Chief Product Officer of Uber, Manik Gupta is leaving the company and his last day will be December 13, he informed this in a note to Uber’s product team, according to a media report

“After a few discussions with Dara as well as with my family—and now that we’ve made it through the IPO and an important year for the company—I’ve made the tough decision to leave Uber,” Gupta wrote in the note.” 

Being the Chief Product Officer at Uber, Gupta leads the global core product team. He's responsible for product management, data science, data analyst, design and program management functions. Prior to taking on this role, Manik ran Uber's marketplace and maps product teams, where he was responsible for creating mapping solutions and marketplace technologies. 

In the last two years, the US based cab aggregator has witnessed multiple changes in the senior leadership team. Starting from the Chief People Officer Liane Hornsey announced her departure after in July 2018. Earlier this year the company restructured its global market team, in April the APAC Head of Uber, Amit Jain steps down from his role. It can also be recalled that last month the company slashed ten percent of their staffs in India.  

Prior to joining Uber in 2015, Gupta worked on Google Maps for over seven years. He led the creation and curation of all the maps and business data to make Google Maps the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful map of the world.

Manik grew up in India and spent many years in Singapore, where he founded an e-commerce startup, BuyItTogether.com, right out of college. The company was successfully acquired by a Norwegian company, CoShopper.com, and Manik subsequently managed Hewlett Packard's e-commerce initiatives in Asia-Pacific and Japan.

He studied computer engineering at Nanyang Technological University and received an MBA from Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India.
