Long-term confidant of Ratan Tata and a trustee of Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata Trusts will be stepping down from his trusteeship citing health concerns as the reason.

In an official statement released by Tata Trusts, Ratan Tata shared his “..personal thanks to Soonawala for his colleagueship over the years and wished him good health in the years ahead.” Having served the Tata group in various capacities including as the Vice-Chairman of Tata Sons, the 83-year-old close confidante of Ratan Tata cited his “advanced age” and health issues as a reason behind his decision to retire from the trusts.

The other trustees added that they understood Soonawala’s desire to step down from his position. Earlier last month, Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s half-brother was appointed as a trustee to the Sir Ratan Tata Trust which also happens to be the second-largest trust among the more than a dozen charities that are a part of Tata Trusts.
