Capgemini, a French multinational IT Consulting Company is planning to hire over 20,000 people from India this year.  Last year they hired 33,000 employees and re-skilled 51,000 owing to automation and digitization.

Going against the layoffs trend, Capgemini reskilled 45,000 of its employees until May, as it moves towards automation.

Christopher Stancombe, Head of Automation and Industrialization was quoted in media saying, “There is a lot of training. We are investing a lot of money in the development of training programs because automation and the integration of automation are leading to a lot of opportunity for our workforce.”

As reported in People Matters, companies like Walmart sacked 7000 employees last year owing to automation. As per NASSCOM’s annual review jobs grew only by 5% in FY17 and there may be a 20-25% reduction over the next three years. Amid these reports, Stancombe was mentioned in media saying, “We have been more focused on the positive side. We are seeing that it is releasing people's time to enable them to do other things -a bit more analytics, customer care. We are seeing a positive influence and a great opportunity for us, clients and employees. Automation is actually increasing demand for people.”
