Cisco and Hitachi to increase headcount in India

Cisco Systems will increase its workforce in India by about 60 percent over the next four years as part of its strategy for emerging markets.This will be the first big-scale recruitment by Cisco in India after it announced a 15 percent cut in global workforce in mid 2011. Most of the hiring will be for the company's research and development centre in Bangalore, which is its largest outside the US. In India, the $43-billion (revenue) Cisco will focus on growth areas such as mobile packet core, cable digitization, cloud services and collaboration with the government.

Apart from Cisco; Hitachi Consulting, the IT and management consulting solutions arm of the $112 billion Hitachi Ltd, to more than double its global development centre in Hyderabad to 4,000 engineers from the existing 1,600 people over the next five years. The Hyderabad ramp up is part of the company's plans to take up the total India headcount to 5,000 engineers from the existing 2,000 engineers.
