MBAs, postgraduates want to work as clerks in SBI

Call it the height of desperation but global meltdown is pushing even the post graduates to apply for jobs which they, in normal times, would have considered too low as per their caliber and qualification. It has been learnt that out of the 36 lakh applicants who applied for 11,000 clerical posts in State Bank of India, a significant number are ones with post graduate degrees including Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Earlier, similar trend was also be noticed in applications filed for 2,500 posts in the rural development and Panchayat Raj department in Karnataka Public Service Commission where a large number of applicants were either engineers or degree holders in technology. In both these vacancies, the minimum qualification required was graduation. According to some of the applicants, the driving force behind this was the lack of job security and uncertainty pervading future job prospects in private sector due to economic crisis.
