Differentiator: Second B-School in India to get AACSB

Located near the temple town of Udupi in Karnataka, TAPMI was established by the Padma Bhushan awardee late Shri T.A. Pai. TAPMI, whose mission statement is to excel in post-graduate management education, research and practice, is part of the chain of educational institutions set up by the Pai family. It is run by a trust led by the father-son duo of Ramdas and Ranjan Pai, who also own the business venture, Manipal Education and Medical Group, (MEMG). The institute offers the following courses: Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Management in Healthcare (PGDM-Healthcare). It is envisaging to introduce Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Banking and Financial Services (PGDM-BKFS) in 2014 and is awaiting regulatory approval for the same.

Though location is said to be a disadvantage, it did not stop the institute from becoming more ambitious. Claiming that 95 per cent of its students have already been placed this year, TAPMI Director R. C. Natarajan told the Hindu Business Line in an interview that newer companies are coming to the campus, some even on just the strength of their alumni network.

It is the second B-School in India to get global accreditation to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) after Indian School of Business. In fact, in keeping with the current times, the school is planning to introduce a course in business analytics and launched a business consultancy course last year, which proved to be extremely popular.

Similarly, TAPMI has the unique distinction of being graded by CRISIL as A*** (the highest) level B-School at national and state level for three consecutive years 2012, 2013 and 2014. It is the founder member of IPRS initiated by IIM Ahmedabad in 2011 and the past five years placement reports are uploaded in the public domain of its website.

TAPMI has a teacher-student ratio at 1:18. In March 2014, the institute joined hands with the University of Dubai to offer Indian students a value-added 18-month MBA and assured career placement in Dubai after graduation. The UD MBA program has been accredited internationally by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), USA. TAPMI is also having international collaborations with Asian Institute of Management, Manipal, Sheffield Halam University, UK and others.

In 2009, its 25th year of establishment, TAPMI shifted its operations to a new 42-acre campus at a cost of Rs 60 crore. The program offered is fully residential. The facility includes a built up area of 3,20,000 sq. ft. to house modern, state-of-the-art, Wi-Fi-enabled, air-conditioned classrooms for students, plush offices for faculty and staff, a knowledge centre, a computer centre, a student’s centre, hostels for men and women, and residences for faculty and staff. The student’s centre is home to a canteen, a gym, yoga and meditation room, an mini open-air theatre and a convenience store.
