Hiring goes interactive as HR targets GenNext

In the bad old days, corporates flew their HR teams to multiple cities across the country, paying for airfares and other overheads, in an attempt to pick the best young minds from B-schools.

That world is facing demise, with companies preferring novel methods to choose the right candidates, reaching out to the net-savvy, socially-networked youth through interactive, problem-solving methods that are appreciated by the younger generation and gets the right candidates for companies.

Raj Menon, COO of C2W says that more companies are getting hooked on to novel hiring methods, which gives them a better “touch and feel’ in recruiting candidates rather than the traditional method of visiting different cities, scanning mark sheets and making a choice largely based on academic performance.

Menon feels that recruitment through the net using creative and interactive game-playing that will test their aptitude and skills and is also appealing to them, could just turn out to be the solution to the long-standing grievance of HR honchos that they are unable to get the right candidates.

However, not all HR pros feel that the traditional hiring methods will come to a quick end. They say that the time-tested interview method may hold for some more time, both because of the force of habit, and also because many HR pros are themselves not quite in the gen-next bracket, making them insular to what appeals to the young job seek.
