C-suite of Visa undergoes major change as Charles Scharf steps down and Alfred Kelly, Jr. takes on as new CEO of Visa.

Charlie Scharf resigns as Visa CEO after four years of stint and is succeeded by Alfred Kelly, Jr., current Visa Board member and a former president of American Express. 

Kelly has held several leadership positions in his career. He has worked for about 23 years in American express, where has last served as president. Also, he has lead different departments including consumer card services group, global consumer group, consumer travel and OPEN from American Express.  

Currently, Kelly is on the board of directors of MetLife Inc. In addition, at TowerBrook Capital Partners, he has been a managing advisor. He has bachelor’s degree and MBA from Iona College

In Visa, he has been board member since 2014 .He will join the company on Oct. 31 as CEO designate.

During Scharf's tenure as CEO, Visa’s operating income increased to $9.1 billion in the fiscal year 2015. Also, it completed its acquisition of Visa Europe in June 2016.
