Hiring and retaining talent are the greatest challenges

According to the findings of workforce management solutions company Kronos, which conducted the Workforce Productivity India 2012 study People Matters, hiring the right kind of people was cited as the most important challenge by 98 per cent of HR and business leaders. The second most-cited concern was retaining this talent, backed by 93 per cent of respondents. Kronos puts forth the argument that accurate and real time workforce data — from absenteeism, time keeping, background, skills, workplace behaviors and more – can enhance productivity. While human resource departments need to focus on improving workforce productivity, they have little or no means of measuring their employees’ productivity.

A large number of companies face difficulties in measuring the productivity of their workforce. A total of 72 per cent of the respondents have a manual process to measure productivity while only 28 per cent of them have an automated system in place to track its improvement. The report says companies’ still use desktop office software or a manual system even to manage their workforce planning and scheduling.
