TCS doubles salary for freshers with new age digital skills
As per reports, TCS is offering those with digital skills a starting salary of about Rs 6.5 lakh. It has offered about 1,000 fresh graduates with new-age digital skills almost double the salary it normally pays to those coming out of campuses.
One of the biggest recruiters from Indian engineering institutes has also redesigned its selection process and instead of visiting accredited colleges to conduct a test followed by an interview, it will now conduct an online National Qualifier Test (NQT). From this year, candidates who perform exceedingly well in the company’s online National Qualifier Test (NQT), will also get an opportunity to take a shot at that digital skills-based examination.
Even the selection of the candidates was based on their clearing a test focused on new digital areas.
“People who have done well in the NQT will get a chance to write another test for the digital talent pool, and if they clear and go through the interview, then they will get into the digital pool and their compensation will be differentiated,” said Ajoy Mukherjee, Executive VP and Head of Global Human Resources.
The test involves programming with a higher degree of difficulty compared to the NQT.
In the time when automation is changing the way work is done and leading to the emergence of new skills in demand, individuals who possess these skills are going to be one of the greatest assets for companies. Keeping the importance of these digital skills in mind, a company like TCS is taking a few steps forward and rewarding the fresh graduates who have these skills.
This highlights how besides increasing the learning budgets to upskill and reskill the employees for the emerging digital skills, companies are now also going lengths to hire good talent. Employees with skills in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis are even getting better appraisals across levels. Such specialists are rare and in much demand.
