Flipkart consolidates to one office in Bengaluru
E-commerce behemoth Flipkart has decided to consolidate all offices and become operational out of one campus in Embassy Tech Village. This decision, to be “Better together” was taken in 2015, where Flipkart had decided to consolidate its many offices across Bengaluru to one location.
This move is aimed at improving operational efficiency and to also benefit from the resulting synergy between its various teams and functions, who would work out of a single location for the first time in years.
The leadership team from Flipkart including, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Binny Bansal, and Sachin Bansal were present with their employees for the launch of the new campus on 31st of March this year.
The 8.3 lakh square feet campus comprises of 3 separate buildings interconnected by bridges at alternate levels and can house 7387 employees across 30 floors in the three buildings.
The new campus boasts of features such as the food court, gymnasium, daycare facilities, meeting room clusters located centrally to maximize natural light to the workstations, large pantries and informal meeting areas to allow for collaboration, indoor recreation rooms – with VR games, simulators and a Golf Simulator, an outdoor recreation space on the terrace – multi-game playing surface for futsal, basketball and cricket, and even a laundromat counter to cater to employee laundry requirements.
As per the e-commerce giant, by co-locating all its business units into one new, agile work environment, it aims to create a unified office that supports cooperation, collaboration, and flexibility. It believes that centralization will promote increased productivity and engagement through efficient ways of working. ‘Frugality’ has been chosen as a key attribute of the design with the idea being to have simple and smart spaces, void of unnecessary ornamentation, at the same time being efficient, functional, bright and lively.
