The hackathons are emerging as a starting point in women’s struggle to break back into the IT industry, and especially into the boys' club that is programming. While such events are popular in tech circles, all-women hackathons and hacking groups are gaining ground as a safe zone where women collaborate, connect, code and learn about new technology in their fields in a pressure-free environment. The IT industry employs 3.1 million people of which women constitute 35-38% across levels.
