Lack of data on jobs is an issue- PM Modi

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi rubbished the claims of lack of jobs in the country and mentioned more than lack of jobs the upsetting issue is lack of data of jobs. According to the Prime Minister, this lack of data everyone is questioning the ruling party.

“I don't blame our opponents for blaming us on the issue of jobs, after all, no one has an accurate data on jobs," Narendra Modi said in an interview with ‘Swarajya magazine.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the traditional parameter of measuring jobs is not up to the mark to measure the new jobs in the country.

Sharing an example he said, there are close to three lakh village-level entrepreneurs who are running Common Service Centres across the country and also creating more employment. “Start-ups are working as job multipliers and there are around 15,000 start-ups, which the government has helped in some way, and there will be many more operational. Aggregators of various kinds employ thousands of youth,” he said.

The Prime Minister quoted the latest EPFO report which suggests 41 lakh formal jobs were created in eight months ( September 2017 to April 2018) on the basis of payroll data.  He said, “According to a study based on EPFO data, more than 70 lakh jobs were created in the formal sector last year.”

Narendra Modi insisted that different government schemes have provided millions of jobs in the formal and informal sectors. According to him if there were 41 lakh formal jobs, then the number of informal jobs would have been much more during the same period.

Schemes such as Mudra Yojna, road construction, airport and railway constructions and other rural house constructions programs are providing a huge number of jobs to the youths and unemployed.

He also stressed if state governments claim to create a good number of jobs then it’s not possible that country is not creating jobs.
