IIT Council to allow other engineering colleges to accept JEE scores

Following the lines of Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), whose CAT scores are used by over 150 B-Schools in the country to grant admissions to students, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) may also allow other engineering institutes across the nation to give admissions to students based on the results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Currently the JEE is conducted to admit students for the 15 IITs, Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad and the Institute of Technology in Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The move, which is still subject to approval from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the IIT Council, will replace the JEE and other widely held entrance tests for admission to various engineering colleges across India with a common entrance test emphasizing on general aptitude and knowledge and expertise in specific areas.
