HR managers in India are exploring every avenue to combat attrition and going that extra mile to handle new recruits with care and caution. HR managers have come up with a special term called, "controlling infant mortality." to describe the nature of exercise that they are undertaking to enhance employee-welfare at the very first year of the recruitment. Companies have lately realized that the first year is that all-crucial period in which the attrition is highest, especially among employees from bigger cities. “Over the past three years, sectors like BPO, information technology (IT), retail, telecom, insurance and BFSI have witnessed the maximum attrition within the first year of recruitment,” says Sunil Goel, director, GlobalHunt India, a Delhi-based executive search firm. So many firms have devised strategies, customized to help the new faces within the workforce.
