Sunil Nayyar becomes the first Indian Managing Director of Sony India

Sunil Nayyar who joined Sony India in 1995 has been promoted to the role of Managing Director, Sony India, with effect from April 1, 2018. In his new role, Sunil will be responsible for spearheading the overall growth and profitability of the company within the region, by driving an integrated business and marketing strategy and directing excellence in market performance across all categories.

This appointment is being considered as a historic milestone for Sony as Sunil is the first Indian to be appointed as Managing Director for its India business. Sunil has replaced Kenichiro Hibi, who was leading the India business for Sony. Kenichiro Hibi has now become the President of Sony Brazil. 

Speaking on his appointment, Sunil Nayyar said, “Being one of the most recognized consumer electronics brands, it is an exciting time to lead the company’s direction in India. In this time of transition, I look forward for an insight from our stakeholders and help guide in further strengthening Sony’s presence in India. I am confident, that we will continue to harness our energies to expand our footprint and offer the best in class technology to our consumers.”

Sunil Nayyar had joined as part of Sony Gulf’s sales team and was in charge of North and East Africa, Russia, Lebanon, Syria and various other GCC Countries. He has held the position of Sales Head from April 2006 to April 2015. Prior to his latest role, he was working for Sony North America as head of Retail Experience, from May 2015 till March 2018.
