As Walmart gears to open 15 wholesale Cash and Carry stores in Uttar Pradesh, it also plans to create 30,000 jobs in the state. 

Earlier this year, a MoU was signed between Walmart India and the state government in the UP investment summit. 

The Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Rajneesh Kumar who represented Walmart India in the Investment Summit shared, "Each store is likely to create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, thereby generating at least 30,000 local jobs in the state." 

Walmart considers UP as a priority growth state and thus is making a deep investment in agriculture supply chain, enhancing small farmers capabilities and sourcing from them for its stores in UP and other states. Through their Cash and Carry stores and FC in Lucknow, they are not only looking forward to creating new jobs but will also be supporting and enabling small kiranas, farmers and local SME suppliers. 

"We are delighted to bring best practices in retail to our kiranas, best practices in farming and food safety to our farmers and SME suppliers," said Rajneesh Kumar. 

Currently, Walmart India has its stores and FCs at Lucknow, Agra and Meerut. Now, the company is bringing its wholesale Cash and Carry stores to Varanasi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Gorakhpur and other cities as well. 

With their new stores in Varanasi, Walmart also aims to provide a platform to saree weavers and other artisans who struggle for market access in the city. 

"These stores will not only improve lives if these neglected groups, but also provide visibility to their products to millions of consumers directly," added Rajneesh Kumar.

Walmart that recently acquired 77 percent stake in Flipkart could also leverage Flipkart to give wider visibility to such artisan/weaver clusters in the future.
