According to NASSCOM, for the IT-ITeS industry - the largest employer of white collar employees, the additional personnel requirement in the IT sector of the country may come down by nearly 50,000. The decline in numbers is primarily because of previous years large scale backlog of recruitments and also because the nature of services being delivered by Indian IT firms are evolving, requiring less number of engineers as automation of work becomes common place. As per estimates, last year the IT-ITeS industry added 1.8 lakh jobs and it is expected that the number this year will be 1.3 to 1.5 lakh jobs. In terms of business, the IT industry is expected to grow at 12 to 14 per cent in dollar terms in the current fiscal and is expected to add " $13 to 15 billion new business in both domestic and exports.
